In 1971, the Craigs moved more than thirty crocodiles from the island of Daru (PNG) to their new Green Island attraction - Marineland Melanesia. This photo shows the three largest of the reptiles in the course of their ocean journey. Gomek is in the foreground; George Craig is shown standing behind the second crocodile, Oscar; while Annika lies strapped to the pallet above him.

Our crocodiles primitive instincts come to the fore at feeding time - it's exciting to watch. You will be amazed by their awesome power, and you will understand why they have a reputation as a "Man Killer". Take this opportunity to handle a "live" young crocodile and have a photo taken to show your friends. Use your own camera or be professionally photographed by our friendly staff. Your photo (also available on CD or floppy disk) is presented in a souvenir frame and available for purchase as you exit at the end of your visit.

Meet "Cassius", the largest Croc in captivity at 5.5 metres, (18ft). The Australian Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus Porosus) like "Cassius" is the largest and most fearsome of today's species. It can live to over 100 years, can grow to 7 metres (23ft) and weigh more than one tonne! Marineland Melanesia presently houses over 50 crocodiles, ranging from small hatchings to giants like "Cassius". Most of the reptiles you will see were born and bred on Green Island, and over the past 30 years many others have been relocated to other reptile parks. "Cassius" was transported by truck from the Northern Territory to Green Island in 1987, a distance of around 3200 kilometres. Cassius is approximately 100 years old, is a reputed Man-Eater and is the largest crocodile ever caught alive in Australia.
